Falls are the leading cause of injury death for Americans age 65 and older, and the most common cause of non-fatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma.
In 2008 2,100,000 non-fatal fall injuries were treated in emergency rooms across America; and more than 559,000 of those were admitted according to the Center for Disease Control.
This year one in three people over 65 will experience a fall; over the age of 75 that risk increases to one in two.
Even those who are not injured from a fall may then develop a fear of falling which may cause them to limit their activities, reducing mobility and physical fitness, increasing the actual risk of falling.
Learn the risk factors, causes and consequences of a fall; simple things you can do around the home and when out and about to reduce your risk of falling; what to do if you do fall; and what steps you can take to assess your risk and improve your balance.
Prevention is vital to maintain your health and your quality of life, this class will give the tools you need to do that.
